The father of O'Grady was Jim O'Grady. Her mother, Jan, was a financial planner. Her family raised her by their parents in Wheaton in Illinois and graduated in 1981 with a diploma from Wheaton-North High School. The model was featured on several commercials for television before moving into Los Angeles. O'Grady began her career modeling for Montgomery Ward and making commercials.
